Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-08-11
This Privacy Policy explains how Adrián Lorenzo Calviño Amado ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the Waifu2x mobile application (the "App").
We are committed to protecting your privacy. The App is designed to process images locally on your device, and we do not require you to create an account to use the App.
1. Information We Collect
We aim to collect only the information necessary to operate, maintain, and improve the App.
Depending on how you use the App, the following information may be processed.
Images
The App allows you to select images from your device for image upscaling and enhancement.
Image processing is performed entirely locally on your device.
Images selected for processing are not uploaded to our servers and are not accessible to us. We do not collect, store, or retain copies of the images you process through the App.
Images may remain on your device according to your device's operating system and your own actions, including when you save or export a processed image to your photo library.
Technical and Diagnostic Information
We use third-party services to help us understand crashes and technical problems affecting the App.
These services may collect information such as:
- device model;
- operating system and version;
- App version;
- crash reports and stack traces;
- diagnostic information;
- application state at the time of a crash;
- performance information; and
- other technical information necessary to diagnose and resolve problems.
We do not require you to create an account, and we do not intentionally collect your name, email address, or other directly identifying information through the App.
Advertising Information
The App may display advertisements provided by Google AdMob.
Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect information such as IP address, device identifiers, advertising information, diagnostic information, performance information, and information about interactions with the App and advertisements, depending on the configuration of the SDK, applicable consent requirements, and the user's privacy choices.
2. How We Use Information
Information processed in connection with the App may be used for the following purposes:
- providing and operating the App;
- displaying advertisements;
- measuring and improving advertising performance;
- diagnosing crashes and technical problems;
- improving the stability and performance of the App;
- preventing fraud, abuse, and misuse;
- understanding general usage of the App;
- processing and managing In-App Purchases and subscriptions through Apple's App Store;
- complying with applicable legal obligations; and
- protecting our rights and the security of the App and its users.
We do not use images processed by the App to train AI models because those images are processed locally on the user's device and are never transmitted to us.
3. Image Processing
A core feature of Waifu2x is that image processing takes place entirely on the user's device.
When you select an image:
- the image is accessed from your device;
- the image is processed locally by the App;
- the resulting image remains on your device unless you choose to save, share, or otherwise export it.
We do not upload your images to our servers.
We do not have access to the images processed by the App.
We do not sell, rent, or otherwise disclose your images to third parties.
4. Advertising
The App may display advertisements through Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob).
Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect certain information to provide, measure, and improve advertising services. This may include IP address, device identifiers, advertising data, crash and diagnostic information, performance information, and information regarding interactions with advertisements.
Advertising may be personalized or non-personalized depending on applicable law, consent, and the user's privacy choices.
Where required by applicable law, the App may request your consent before using certain information for personalized advertising or related purposes.
You may also be presented with privacy choices regarding advertising through Google's consent-management mechanisms.
Google provides additional information about its processing of information through its Mobile Ads SDK in its Mobile Ads SDK documentation .
5. Tracking and Apple's App Tracking Transparency
Where applicable, the App may request permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework before accessing the device's advertising identifier for tracking purposes.
If you do not grant permission, the App will continue to function, although advertising may be less personalized.
The App does not require tracking permission to perform image processing.
6. Crash Reporting
We use Firebase Crashlytics, provided by Google, to identify and diagnose crashes and improve the stability of the App.
Crashlytics may collect information including crash stack traces, relevant application state, device information, and operating system information. Depending on how Crashlytics is configured and used, additional information such as developer-defined logs, custom keys, or user identifiers may also be included in crash reports.
We use Crashlytics for technical diagnostics and crash management.
We do not intentionally include the contents of your images in crash reports.
7. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions
The App may offer optional premium features through Apple's In-App Purchase system, including auto-renewable subscriptions.
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store.
We do not receive or store your payment card information or other payment credentials used to make purchases through Apple's App Store.
We may receive transaction and subscription information necessary to determine whether you have access to purchased features.
Subscription management, cancellation, payment processing, and refunds are handled through Apple's App Store and your Apple Account.
8. Third-Party Services
The App uses third-party frameworks and services to provide specific functionality.
These include:
- Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) — advertising and advertising-related measurement;
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting and diagnostics;
- Apple App Store / StoreKit — In-App Purchases and subscriptions.
The App also uses third-party software libraries such as Alamofire, Moya, Lottie, Kingfisher, ReactiveSwift, and RxSwift.
These libraries are used as software dependencies within the App. They do not, by themselves, mean that we collect personal information through those libraries. Their actual data practices depend on how they are used and configured within the App.
Third-party services may process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.
9. Data Retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
Because image processing takes place entirely on your device, we do not retain copies of the images you process.
Information collected by third-party services such as AdMob and Firebase Crashlytics may be retained by those providers according to their respective policies and retention practices.
10. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed in connection with the App.
Because image processing takes place locally, your images are not transmitted to our servers as part of the normal image-upscaling process.
However, no electronic storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
11. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your country or jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:
- request access to your personal information;
- request correction of inaccurate information;
- request deletion of personal information;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
- exercise other rights provided by applicable privacy laws.
Because we do not require an account and do not store users' processed images, there may be limited personal information that we can directly associate with a particular user.
To exercise applicable privacy rights or ask questions about our privacy practices, contact us at:
Email: contact@waifu2x.pro
12. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us at contact@waifu2x.pro .
13. International Data Processing
Some third-party service providers used by the App may process information in countries other than the country where you reside.
Where required by applicable law, appropriate safeguards will be used for international transfers of personal information.
14. Links to Third-Party Services
The App or our website may contain links to third-party websites or services.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or security of third-party websites or services.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party service you access.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the App, our services, applicable law, or our privacy practices.
When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
